Our English Department
Elizabeth Wyn Wood Secondary Alternate offers high school English classes ranging from grades 9 to 12. Students explore diverse literary genres and are invited to choose texts that reflect their own interests and identities. Through responding to ideas, analyzing themes and techniques, and making connections to their own experiences, students will develop critical literacy skills. They learn to craft compelling reports, creative pieces, and essays, and work on improving communication through elements of writing such as grammar, organization, and style. The program emphasizes media literacy, enabling students to navigate digital landscapes effectively. These English courses prepare them for post-secondary education and future careers, equipping them with the tools to become informed, active, and articulate citizens.
