Social Science and Canadian World Studies Department

Social Science and Canadian World Studies Department

The Social Sciences, Canadian and World Studies Department at Elizabeth Wyn Wood Secondary Alternate Program aims to provide students with a deeper understanding of ourselves, our country and the world.

In pursuit of this goal, the department offers a wide range of courses for all student pathways. We offer courses in world religions, philosophy, history, civics, law, politics, social sciences, geography and First Nations, MĂ©tis, and Inuit Studies. Through guided inquiry processes and collaborative learning opportunities, students learn in conjunction with the teacher, student, parents and our community partners.

The teachers involved in the department value our students’ insights and prioritize offering them rich and rewarding learning experiences. Students will explore causes that are important to them and see how understanding the history and thinkers involved in those causes can help them become more effective at creating a more just and equitable world for all.
